A recent study published in JAMA Network Open found that the incidence of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes among youth has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to before. The increase was more pronounced in certain demographic groups, such as individuals aged 10 to 19 years, males, and Hispanics. The study showed a 17% increase in new-onset type 1 diabetes and a 62% increase in type 2 diabetes. Symptoms of diabetes include frequent urination, increased thirst, persistent hunger, fatigue, and slow wound healing.
